About LASIK
Is LASIK for me?
Is LASIK for me?
Determine If LASIK Surgery Is Right for You
In order to determine your candidacy for LASIK surgery or any other form of vision correction surgery, you need to have a screening exam at our office. During this visit, which typically takes about 30-45 minutes, you will undergo special tests that will determine if you are a candidate for LASIK laser vision correction surgery and what is the safest and the most effective procedure for you. The screening process for LASIK surgery is virtually painless, and you can rest assured you’re in expert hands with our professional staff.
The reason this exam is so important is because no two eyes are the same, so no cornea maps will be the same, just like with a Fingerprint or DNA sample. This is why a pre-operative exam is absolutely necessary.
During your exam you will be able to ask questions related to many elements of eye surgery and LASIK eye surgery in general. Feel free to discuss LASIK cost and the associates LASIK pricing. NOT all LASIK procedures are the same so be certain to ask about the different types that we offer and are offered by other Georgia LASIK doctors. Your decision to have LASIK laser vision correction depends on the results of a very thorough preoperative evaluation. On the day of your preoperative exam, we will complete multiple tests and points of evaluation including:
- Corneal thickness testing
- Pupil size measurement
- Dry eye evaluation
- Tests to analyze the shape of your cornea
- Measure the level of nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism
Why Am I Not a Candidate for LASIK Surgery?
Millions of people around the world have successfully undergone LASIK surgery to correct their vision. Although countless men and women are ideal candidates for LASIK surgery, there are some people who do not qualify for the procedure due to certain medical exclusions, some of which include:
-
Must pass corneal thickness tests
- Must have track record of healthy eyes
- Must not have keratoconus
- Must not have severe dry eye syndrome
- Must be over 18 years of age
- Must have stable vision prescription
- Must not be pregnant
Our surgeon will work with you to determine if you qualify for LASIK surgery. If you are not a LASIK surgery candidate, you may still be an excellent candidate for other procedures, which will be presented to you at the time of your screening.
What If I am Not a LASIK Surgery Candidate?
Unfortunately, LASIK surgery is not for everyone. Even if you are not a candidate for LASIK, you may be a candidate for an alternative procedure. Your alternatives may include: Implantable Contact Lens, Clear Lensectomy, PRK or perhaps no surgery at all. Only a comprehensive screening exam can determine your candidacy, so contact us to schedule an appointment with our surgeon today. We’ll work with your schedule to find a time that is suitable for you, even if it’s on your lunch break.
